Shield of the Faithful

DESCRIPTION

The Shield of the Faithful is a +5 called major fire resistance righteous heavy adamantine shield of master construction and design. It has small holy runes of etched along its surface, granting it the divine power it holds. The shield takes on the symbol and color of the deity of the wielder, and never appears marked or damaged. The Shield of the Faithful also functions as a celestial shield and a phalanx shield

POWERS

The Shield of the Faithful was crafted by a powerful cleric of Jors Guardarm and imbued with faith magic. It grants the user the following spell-like abilities.

Champion Defense (Ex)

Once per day, when the wielder of the Shield of the Faithful would be reduced to 0 or fewer hit points by damage in combat from a weapon, unarmed, or natural attack, the wielder can attempt to absorb all the damage with the shield. To use this ability, the wielder must attempt a Fortitude saving throw, with the DC equal to the damage dealt. If it succeeds, the wielder takes only half damage from the blow; otherwise, the wielder takes full damage. The wielder must be aware of the attack and able to react to it in order to use this ability—if the wielder is denied its Dexterity bonus to AC, the wielder can’t use this ability. 

Holy Shield (Su)

The wielder can channel her faith into the Shield of the Faithful protecting any nearby allies. All allies within 10 feet of to the wielder gain a shield bonus equal to the Shield of the Faithful's own shield bonus, including any increase from the shield’s enhancement bonus. This bonus does not stack with any existing shield bonuses. The Shield of the Faithful radiates light as a daylight spell while the shielding is active.

HISTORY

The Shield of the Faithful was lost for many centuries, until it was was rediscovered in an ancient and powerfully enchanted vault with a number of other artifacts by the heroes of the Off-Worlder War; Odorian Lightbringer, Wu Yan Ravenhill, Aragast Anadriel, and Blackroot Brambleburr.  Shortly after its discovery, it was passed into the hands of their friend and ally, the lady knight and sister of Odorian, Kirri Lightbringer who wielded it throughout the Off-Worlder War, and on until her death years later.
