Dragon Knight (Dragonborn, Cavalier Archetype)

The nobility of the dragonborn makes them perfect candidates for the arduous life of a cavalier. However, there are those who embrace both this path and that of their ancient heritage. By drawing upon the draconic blood that flows through their veins, these dragon knights serve the weak and oppressed, while bringing honor to their own people. Class FeaturesThe dragon knight has the following class features. Draconic Mount (Ex)

This is exactly like the cavalier ability of the same name, except that at 11th level, the mount gains the half-dragon template and becomes a dragon for the purposes of determining which spells affect it. At 15th level, the dragon knight’s mount gains spell resistance equal to the dragon knight’s level + 11. This ability replaces mount, expert trainer, and demanding challenge. Dragon Maw (Su)

At 1st level, a dragon knight’s heritage enhances the power of his teeth and jaws. He gains a bite attack that deals 1d4 points of damage. Once per day, the dragon knight can deal 1d6 points of additional energy damage with his bite attack. The damage type depends on his chosen dragon parentage: acid (black, copper, or green), cold (silver or white), electricity (blue or bronze), fire (brass, gold or red). At 5th level and every four levels thereafter, he can deal this energy damage with his bite attack one addition time per day, up to five times per day at 17th level. This ability replaces tactician.

Order

The dragon knight may choose the Order of the Dragon’s Heart, in addition to any other order.

Dragon Heritage (Su)

At 5th level, a dragon knight gains a +2 bonus against sleep and paralysis effects. He can also grow a pair of wings as a standard action that, while too weak for actual flying, allow him to fall at a very slow and safe pace. The dragon knight can make a DC 15 Fly check to fall safely from any height without taking falling damage, as if using feather fall. When falling safely, the dragon knight may make an additional DC 15 Fly check to glide, moving 5 feet laterally for every 20 feet he falls. The dragon knight can dismiss the wings as a free action. This ability replaces banner.

Bonus Feats

The dragon knight adds the Draconic Defender, Draconic Discipline, Empower Spell-Like Ability, Fly-By Attack, Hover, Improved natural Armor, Improved Natural Attack, and Quicken Spell-Like Ability monster feats to the list of bonus feats he can select.

Greater Dragon Breath (Su)

At 9th level, a dragon knight’s breath weapon improves. This breath weapon deals 2d6 points of damage of the energy type of his chosen dragon subtype. Those caught in the area of the breath receive a Reflex save for half damage. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + 1/2 the dragon knight’s level + the dragon knight’s Charisma modifier. The dragon knight can use this ability twice per day. This ability replaces greater tactician.

Greater Dragon Heritage (Su)

At 14th level, a dragon knight’s bonus against sleep and paralysis effects increases to +4. In addition, he can grow leathery dragon wings from his back as a standard action, giving him a fly speed of 60 feet with average maneuverability. The dragon knight can dismiss the wings as a free action. This ability replaces greater banner.

True Dragon Breath (Su)

At 17th level, a dragon knight’s breath weapon now deals 4d6 points of damage of the energy type of his chosen dragon subtype. The dragon knight can use this ability four times per day. This ability replaces master tactician.

Diving Charge (Ex)

This is exactly like the cavalier’s supreme charge ability, except that a dragon knight can make a charge while flying and gains the bonus granted by his cavalier’s charge ability.
