Tunnel Shadow (Halfling, Slayer Archetype)

Tunnel shadows are dirty-under-the fingernails halflings with a tremendous courage and scrappy attitude toward dangerous and powerful foes. Unlike most halflings, tunnel shadows enjoy deep dark tunnels. Cheerful, matter-of-fact, and often bloodthirsty, the tunnel shadow specializes in rooting out small humanoids that make their lairs underground. Thus, goblins, duergar, and kobolds are among the most common of such creatures, though lycanthropes, undead, and large animals like giant rats are just as eagerly targeted. If a small cramped space is in need of infiltration, the tunnel shadow is typically the first to be called. Class FeaturesThe tunnel shadow has the following class features. Weapon and Armor Proficiency

A tunnel shadow gains proficiency with the hand crossbow. Languages

A tunnel shadow adds Draconic and Undercommon to the list of languages he can choose from if he has a high Intelligence score.

Darkvision (Ex)

A tunnel shadow gains darkvision out to 60 feet.

Blind Fight (Ex)

At 2nd level, a tunnel shadow gains Blind Fight as a bonus feat.

Spelunking (Ex)

At 4th level, a tunnel shadow gains a +2 bonus on initiative checks and Knowledge (geography), Perception, Stealth, and Survival skill checks when he is underground. A tunnel shadow traveling through the underground (tunnels, caves, etc.) normally leaves no trail and cannot be tracked (though he may leave a trail if he so chooses). At 8th level and every four levels thereafter, the skill bonus and initiative bonus in the underground increases by +2, to a maximum of +10 at 20th level. These bonuses stack with those gained from the studied target ability. This ability replaces the slayer talents gained at 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th level.

Deep Stalker (Ex)

At 7th level, a tunnel shadow possesses incredible stealth, especially while moving through underground areas, including caves, tunnels, and so on. He reduces the penalty for using Stealth while moving by 5, and reduces the Stealth check penalty for sniping by 10. In addition, a tunnel shadow can move at full speed while using Stealth in an underground terrain without penalty.

Shadow’s Advance (Ex)

At 13th level, a tunnel shadow can once per day move up to twice his base speed as a move action. He may use Stealth as part of this movement, but takes a –10 penalty to his check for doing so. At 17th level, he can do this twice per day. The tunnel shadow can use his deep stalker ability in conjunction with shadow’s advance while moving underground.
